Motion Mathematics started as a simple idea: give back to the community that made my own education possible, and create real opportunity for tutors in the process.
My name is Owen, and I'm the founder of Motion Mathematics. I grew up in this community, went through these same schools, and built the foundation for my own academic career right here in Matawan. Starting this business is my way of giving back to the place that gave me my start.
I hold a degree in Mathematics with a minor in Business Administration from Rutgers University, and I've been tutoring since my early high school years, long before this became a business. In 2025, I passed the Society of Actuaries Exam P and Exam FM, two of the foundational exams in actuarial science. Math has always been the thing I understood most naturally, and tutoring has always been how I shared that.
But Motion Mathematics isn't just about students. It's also about the tutors.
Why this matters right now
The job market for students and recent graduates right now is genuinely one of the hardest in years. Entry-level hiring has dropped sharply, competition for every opening has intensified, and a lot of talented, capable people are struggling to find a way to put their skills to work.
That's one of the main reasons Motion Mathematics exists. Beyond helping students improve their grades and confidence in math, I wanted to create real, flexible, well-paying opportunities for tutors right here in Matawan, whether that's a college student home for the summer, a recent graduate between opportunities, or a retired teacher who still wants to make a difference.
Every session booked through Motion Mathematics is also a job created for someone in this community.
Whether you're a parent looking for support for your child, or someone interested in tutoring, I'd love to hear from you.
